Sony Crystal Display LED TV technology

Sony Crystal Display LED TV technology

While at CES many eyes focused on the OLED screen from LG and Samsung Sony came as a complete surprise with a technique that is certainly worthwhile to take a closer look. We are talking about the Sony LED Crystal Display technology.

Sony was the first party in 2007, OLED technology for TV on the market in the 11-inch XEL-1 OLED and the company for TV and certainly not written in the professional sector already delivers Trim Aster reference OLED screens. Yet apparently the company is opting for a kind of two-track policy.

Put simply, the essence of both “Crystal LED Display” OLED technology as the fact that the pixels or sub pixels emit light themselves (self-emitting) and also completely disable.
This pixel-level control provides a tremendous clarity with very saturated colors with full blacks. In addition, these LEDs are much faster on and off than the current LCD technology which lag or blur of the image of the past. The viewing angle while maintaining color and contrast is greater than an LCD TV.

Just for the record. The TVs that currently LED TVs are not actually called LED TVs, but LCD TVs with LED backlighting. That is a completely different technique than that used in the Crystal LED Display and OLED screens.

To give an idea of the effect of Crystal Display LED LCD over a few figures from Sony Sony technology based on the current status:

• In a bright environment, the new technique a 3.5 times higher contrast

• The color spectrum is magnified by a factor of 1.4

• The screen response time is improved by a factor of 10

Also regarding energy technology is the Sony 55-inch prototype interesting since about 70 watts.

All in all, the Sony LED Crystal Display technology in our opinion, very worthwhile to continue.
